The Church of England has launched a poster campaign which shares messages of hope and welcome to all this Christmas. These posters will appear in bus stops across the country.

This is a response to the disturbing news that Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as the extreme right-wing activist Tommy Robinson, has organised a so-called 'United the Kingdom Carol Service' in central London this weekend which he claims will 'put Christ back into Christmas'.

The Bishop of Kirkstall, Arun Arora, who is also co-lead Bishop for Racial Justice in the Church of England, said:

“We must confront and resist the capture of Christian language and symbols by populist forces seeking to exploit the faith for their own political ends.

"Whether in the warnings of the prophets or the teaching of Jesus, there is an unambiguous call to ensure justice for the weakest and most vulnerable.

“As we approach Christmas and recall the Holy Family’s own flight as refugees, we reaffirm our commitment to stand alongside others in working for an asylum system that is fair, compassionate, and rooted in the dignity of being human.”

We welcome and support this campaign in Cheam Parish and seek to extend the same love and welcome that Christ extends to us to everyone at Christmas and beyond.
